The interaction of light with tiny holes gives rise to surprising new effects: for example, greater “extraordinary optical transmission (EOT)” during the metallic state of vanadium dioxide in perforated double-layer films of Metal-VO2, whereas plain VO2 transmits more light in the semiconducting state.
